Xavi Extends Barcelona Contract, Aims for Champions League Success

1 min read

In exciting news for Barcelona fans, Xavi Hernandez has reportedly inked a contract extension, binding him to the club until the summer of 2026. The former midfield maestro, who was always seen as a natural fit for the managerial role at Barcelona, now has a clear path ahead.

After a successful stint with Qatari outfit Al Sadd, Xavi took the reins at Barcelona. In his debut season as manager, he steered the team to victory in the Supercopa de Espana and secured the La Liga title. However, the bitter taste of an early Champions League exit in the 2022-23 season left a mark, and Xavi is eager to make amends.

President Joan Laporta was the key negotiator in securing Xavi’s extension, which adds two more years to his existing contract. During his tenure, Xavi has managed 94 matches, with an impressive record of 58 victories, 17 draws, and 19 defeats.

In the early stages of the 2023-24 campaign, Barcelona has shown promise, winning three matches. However, a draw against Getafe has them trailing Real Madrid by two points. The team’s next challenge awaits on September 16 when they face Real Betis at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys. With Xavi at the helm, Barcelona fans are hopeful that their club can once again shine on the grand stage of the Champions League.
